What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation combined with enhanced imagination. All people enter hypnotic states throughout the day without realizing it, either by daydreaming or highway hypnosis, or all the varying degrees between sleeping and waking states. Hypnos is Greek for sleep, although it is a misnomer because you don’t sleep in hypnosis. Instead you are extremely relaxed physically and yet mentally alert and receptive. It is extremely safe because it is a naturally occurring state of consciousness. In the hypnotic state the client is in complete control of their own mind, and will not do anything he or she does not want to.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy performed by a certified clinical hypnotherapist entails guiding the client’s daydream or hypnotic state in order to produce therapeutic benefits. Hypnotherapy has been scientifically verified to be an effective technique for smoking cessation, weight management, relaxation, healing emotional trauma, tapping creativity, and improving self esteem. Hypnotherapy produces rapid change by accessing the power of the subconscious mind while it is in a highly suggestible state.

What is the subconscious mind?

According to Randal Churchill, one of my professors of hypnotherapy, “The subconscious houses the emotions, imagination, memory, habits, intuition, and is the pathway to the superconscious. It also regulates our autonomic body functions. It is the very core or essence of how we experience ourselves and the world. Meaningful personal transformation, whether in or out of therapy, results from a shift in the subconscious mind.” Since both NLP and hypnotherapy access the subconscious mind, transformation occurs more quickly than by conscious change methods.
